Marcus Terrell Thornton (born June 5, 1987 in Baton Rouge , Louisiana ) is an American basketball player who was active in the NBA from 2009 to 2017 . He is the cousin of former NBA pro Al Thornton .
Career
college
Thornton played for the college team at Louisiana State University (166 km from New Orleans) prior to his NBA career . He was the 2009 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year .
NBA
Thornton was selected 43rd in the NBA Draft 2009 by the Miami Heat and immediately transferred to the New Orleans Hornets . In 2011 he was transferred to the Sacramento Kings and played there until February 2014. Shortly before the end of the transfer window, he was finally given by the Kings to the Brooklyn Nets . In return, Guard Jason Terry moved to Sacramento. In another player swap, he joined the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2014 .
In February 2015 he switched to the Phoenix Suns . In the summer of 2015, he moved to the Houston Rockets . Thornton's last NBA stint was the Washington Wizards in 2017.
