Al Thornton (born December 7, 1983 in Perry , Georgia ) is an American basketball player.

After four years of compelling college performance, Al Thornton was selected 14th in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers . Due to injuries to teammates, he got a lot of playing time, especially in the second half of his first year with the Clippers. His good performance was recognized at the end of the season with an election to the NBA All-Rookie First Team . In his second year he was able to improve his statistics further. He was on the grid 67 times and had 16.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. The good individual values contrasted with the overall disappointing team performance. With 23 and 19 wins respectively, the Clippers were one of the weakest teams in the league in Thornton's early years.

As part of a transfer involving the Cleveland Cavaliers , he joined the Washington Wizards in February 2010 . After a year he was released on March 1, 2011 and signed two days later by the Golden State Warriors . There he could not assert himself and only got relatively little time. For the 2011/12 season, he got no contract in the NBA.
