David John Lloyd (born March 29, 1943 in Pontycymmer , Bridgend ) is a former Welsh rugby union player and coach. He played as a pillar .
Lloyd made his debut for the Welsh national team against England in 1966 . In his total of 24 international matches, he led the selection three times as captain. He was also the captain of his club Bridgend RFC , which he later coached himself. In 1980 he was appointed national coach for Wales, succeeding John Dawes . In 14 games under him, the team won six games. After a home defeat to Scotland , he resigned. He then coached the rugby selection at the University of Wales in Cardiff and taught as a physical education teacher in Bridgend at the Ynysawdre Comprehensive School.
