New Albany is a US city ​​in the state of Ohio , northeast of Columbus . The city is located in Franklin County and Licking Counties , with the largest area in Franklin County. The population is 7724 (as of 2010) . The city was founded in 1837 and is now a growing suburb of the Columbus metropolitan area .

New Albany is located northeast of Columbus , Ohio, at an elevation of 312 meters (1,024 feet).

The city has an area of ​​30.30 km², of which 29.94 km² is land and 0.36 km² is water.

history

The country was founded in 1837 by Nobel Landon and William Yantis in the center of Plain Township . The land was divided into pieces and the first settlers were sold. The settlers may have come from Albany , New York, United States .

In 1856, New Albany was incorporated with a population of 50 and the first mayor (S. Ogden) was elected. The Wilkins Lumber Mill , later renamed New Albany Mill l, opened in 1881. In 1922, Mrs. Edward Babbitt was elected the city's first female mayor.

In 1970 New Albany was much smaller than it is today. The first annual New Albany Founders' Day Celebration was held in 1976. In 1980 there were 414 residents.

New Albany's strong growth began in the 1990s . The Ohio State Route 161 and access to 161, Interstate 270 (Ohio) were built at that time.

In 2008, the New Albany Mill closed after 119 years.
