Gahanna is a city in Franklin County in the US state of Ohio . It is a suburb of Columbus , Ohio.

Gahanna is east of Columbus. Overall, the urban area extends to 32.63 km², of which 32.19 km² are land, 0.44 km² are water.
Demographics
According to the 2000 census, the city has 33,248 residents, 13,037 households and 9,151 families. The population density is 1,032.7 / km². The population is 82.1% White, 11.2% African American, 0.2% Native American, 3.1% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 0.9% Other, and 2.4% Mixed Ethnicity . 2.6% are Latinos.
Of the 13,037 households, 35.6% have children under the age of 18. 55.1% of them are married and cohabiting couples, 11.5% are single mothers, 3.6% are single fathers, 29.8% are not families. 24.4% of all households are made up of singles, 8.7% are single people over 65. The average size of households is 2.54. The average family has 3.04 people.

history
Ghanna was founded by John Clark in 1849 along Big Walnut Creek. The area at that time was 320 hectares and belonged to Clark's father, who had bought it in 1814 from the then Governor Worthington. Clark called this area Gahanna Plantation, from which the later name of the city is derived. The name Gahanna goes back to a word used by the indigenous people, which describes the merging of three streams to form one stream. During the 19th century there was a merger with the Bridgeport settlement. In March 1881 there was a petition to make Gahanna a separate village again. However, this was rejected in the summer of 1881.
