William Alexander "Wil" Trapp (born January 15, 1993 in Gahanna , Ohio ) is an American football player . The midfielder has been playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer since the end of January 2020 .

Player career

Youth and college

Trapp grew up in Gahanna, Ohio, and attended Lincoln High School, where he won the Division 1 State Championship with their school team in 2009 and was voted NSCAA National High School Player of the Year in 2010. At the same time Trapp played in the youth, the so-called Crew Academy, of the MLS franchise Columbus Crew. In 2012 he won the U-19 NYSA National Championship with the team.

From 2011 to 2012 he attended the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio and played on the local college team Akron Zips. He played a total of 45 games. He was appointed twice to the All-MAC First Team and in 2012 to the Third Team NSCAA All-American.

Columbus crew

On December 13, 2012, Trapp signed a contract as a homegrown player with Columbus Crew SC. Half a year later, on July 6, 2013, he made his debut in Major League Soccer . Since then he has been able to develop into a regular player within the team.

National team

Trapp took part with the US U-20 national team in the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, the 2013 U-20 World Cup and the 2013 Toulon tournament. At the World Cup he was on the pitch in all games and led the team on the pitch as captain in the game against France.

On January 28, 2015, he made his debut for the United States national soccer team in a friendly against Chile . He came on in the 59th minute for Mikkel Diskerud .
