Richfield is a village in Summit County , Ohio , United States . It is now statistically part of the Akron -Metropolbereichs ( Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area ).

Geography and transport links

Richfield is located in a largely wooded area in which the fields are surrounded by extensive trees. About three kilometers east of Richfield is the valley of the Stanford Run, which runs in a north-south direction. Richfield parish is 22.0 km².

The village of Richfield as well as the settlements of the surrounding Richfield Township - here in particular Broadview , which is about four kilometers south of Richfield Village - are fast-growing, originally agricultural communities, some of which today have a suburban character because they are about equidistant from the nearby downtown Akron and Cleveland .

The Village is on Ohio State Route 303 , West Streetsboro Road. From Broadview, Interstate 271 can be reached via Interchange 9, and via I-271 you can change to I-77, which runs in a north-south direction .

Richfield Township is home to a Cisco Systems headquarters and the FedEx distribution warehouse for all of northeast Ohio.

history

Prior to the white settlers' conquest, the area was inhabited by the Wyandotte and Ottawa peoples. Like the other townships of northeastern Ohio was also the Richfield formerly one of the most original in the area of the state Connecticut claimed the late 18th century Connecticut Western Reserve , founded townships . In 1795, the Connecticut Land Company bought all of the reserve's land for one million dollars, split it up into small chunks, and resold, although official contracts with the Indians were not made until the early 19th century.

The area of ​​what would later become Richfield Township was sold to a group of six investors. The place Richfield itself was founded in 1809 by Lancelot Mayes, who settled here as the first settler. The original Indian settlers left the area around 1815.

First the area belonged to Trumbull County, later to Portage County and finally to Medina County until today's Summit County was founded in 1840, in which Richfield and its township are still today. Several of John Brown's children were buried here. They died of a smallpox epidemic while he lived in this area.

Comic book writer Derf Backderf was born in Richfield in 1959. He and serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer attended Revere Senior High School in Richfield (graduated 1978).
