history
Long before settlers came to the Connecticut Western Land , the region was inhabited by Seneca Indians .
The current city was founded in 1798 from Titus Street. In 1825 a road was built between Cleveland and Wellsville , which also ran through Streetsboro. The place was mainly known for its cheese production in the second half of the 19th century. In 1885, five factories produced more than 600,000 pounds of cheese.
There was greater growth with the construction of the Ohio Turnpike in the 1950s. Due to the proximity to Akron and Cleveland and the rapidly growing automotive industry as well as the good transport connections, the population rose disproportionately from 1957. In 1968 the citizens decided to amalgamate the town and township, so that today's urban area was created with a base area of 25 square miles. Until the beginning of the 1970s, the urban area was largely agricultural before the rapid growth of the residential areas that exist today.
