Twinsburg is a city in Summit County , Ohio , United States , about halfway between Akron and Cleveland . Twinsburg is part of the Akron metropolitan area with about 17,000 residents.

history

In 1817, 16-year-old Ethan Alling was the first settler in the area. He was supposed to farm 1.6 square kilometers of land his parents bought from the Connecticut Land Company in Township 5 on the 10th row of the Connecticut Western Reserve . The area was then also known as Millsville. Alling later became the post coachman and postmaster of the area and ran a hotel at the post office. Born on August 13, 1800, he died in Twinsburg in 1882.

The township became known through the twin brothers Moses and Aaron Wilcox, who bought 16 square kilometers of land in 1819. They began to develop the land and offered plots at low land prices, which attracted more settlers. They also donated land for the market square and the school. When they donated $ 20,000 to build the school, the settlement was renamed Twinsburg in their honor from Millsville.

It is said that only closest friends could tell the twins apart. They owned the entire land together and worked together all their lives. They married sisters and both had the same number of children. In old age they had the same diseases and died one after the other within a few hours. They were buried in the same grave in Locust Grove Cemetery in Twinsburg.

The Twinsburg Historical Society, founded in 1963, has a number of historic buildings that display furniture and equipment from the pioneering days. The Freeman barn, owned by the Historical Society, was one of the last to be painted with the signature of the famous Mail Pouch Tobacco , a chewing tobacco , by the writer Harley Warrick . After the death of Warrick, who had advertised 20,000 barns in his life, the company stopped advertising on farm buildings along the country roads.

Twins Days

Twins Days is the city of Twinsburg's festival that has been held every summer since 1976. This festival is a meeting for biological twins (also for triplets and other multiples ). With thousands of participants, it is now the largest annual meeting of twins from all over the world. It includes twins competitions, talent shows, and a parade down Ravenna Road (formerly Ohio State Route 14). The festival takes place annually on the first weekend in August.
