Monroe is a city located in central east Butler County and central West Warren County in the southwestern part of the US state Ohio . In the 2000 census, the city's population rose to 7133, from 4008 in 1990. Monroe was named after James Monroe , the US president who was sworn in at the same time the city was founded (1817).

The King of Kings statue, also known as the "Touchdown Jesus," is a 19 meter high statue located off Interstate 75 near Monroe. The statue shows Jesus with his arms raised. The cost of erecting the statue was approximately US $ 250,000. The statue was designed by Brad Coriel and built by James Lynch in 2004, at the entrance to Solid Rock Church, a 3000-strong community in Monroe. Comedian Heywood Banks wrote a song about the statue. On June 14, 2010, the statue was struck by lightning and burned down completely.
