Union County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Liberty .

The county is located in southeast Indiana, borders Ohio to the east and has an area of ​​420 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers are water. In Indiana, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wayne County , Franklin County, and Fayette Counties .

history

Union County was formed on January 5, 1821 from parts of Fayette County, Franklin County, and Wayne County.

As of the 2000 census , Union County had 7,349 people in 2,793 households and 2,072 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.69 percent white, 0.23 percent African American, 0.27 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.16 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.44 percent were descended from two or more races.
