Brown County is a county in the state of Indiana in the United States . The county seat is Nashville .

The county is located in south-central Indiana and has an area of ​​820 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Johnson County , Bartholomew County , Jackson County , Monroe County, and Morgan County .

history

Brown County was formed on February 4, 1836 from parts of Bartholomew County, Jackson County, and Monroe County. It was named after Jacob Brown , a US general in the War of 1812.

According to the 2000 census , Brown County had 14,957 people in 5,897 households and 4,434 families. The population density was 18 people per square kilometer.
