Andrew James Durante (born May 3, 1982 in Sydney ) is an Australian - New Zealand football player . The defender has been under contract with New Zealand's A-League club Wellington Phoenix since 2008 .
Career
Durante began his active career in the National Soccer League at the Sydney Olympic . Already in his first two seasons he reached the championship finals with Sydney, but was not used in either the 2002 final or the 2003 defeat. For the 2003/04 season he moved to Parramatta Power , but broke his leg in late 2003 after a tackle from Brad Maloney and was out for the rest of the season.
After the setting of the NSL at the end of the 2003/04 season, he made a brief stint in Singapore with Balestier Khalsa and then played for Sydney United in the New South Wales Premier League . In the newly founded Australian professional league A-League for the 2005/06 season , he signed a contract with Newcastle United Jets . During a qualifying game for the Oceania Club Championship in May 2005, Nik Mrdja broke his right tibia and fibula again with a straddle and caused Durante's season to end.
In mid-July 2006 he made his comeback for Newcastle and soon developed into a top performer in the jets . The highlight of his time at Newcastle was the championship final of the 2007/08 season, in which they defeated the Central Coast Mariners 1-0. Durante was awarded the Joe Marston Medal as the best player of the finals . This was also his last game for Newcastle, as he signed a two-year contract with league rivals Wellington Phoenix a short time later . He has been the team captain at Wellington since his arrival.
In 2011 he was awarded to the Sydney FC and was used there five times in the AFC Champions League , but not in the league.
