Joe Marston Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

With the Joe Marston Medal , the outstanding player of the Australian football championship finals ( Grand Final ) has been honored every year since 1990 . Until 2004, the award was presented as part of the National Soccer League , after which it was discontinued in 2004, the successor league A-League took over the award.

The award is named after Joe Marston , an Australian international during the 1950s and FA Cup finalist in 1954 with Preston North End . Alex Tobin (1992, 1994) and Simon Colosimo (2003, 2010) are the only players to receive the award more than once. Scott Chipperfield (2000) and Thomas Broich (2014) are the only two players who were also awarded the Johnny Warren Medal as Australia's Player of the Year in the same year . In seven finals, the award went to a player from the losing team (1991, 1993, 2004, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2017). In 2014, two players were awarded for the first time.
