Alexander Hugh Tobin (born November 3, 1965 in Adelaide ) is a former Australian football player who acted as a defender. With 87 appearances for the Australian national team , he was Australia's record player until he was replaced by Mark Schwarzer as a record national player.

He only played for Australian clubs in his career: he played for Adelaide City for 16 years and then for Parramatta Power and Northern Spirit FC .

In the national team he played from 1988 to 1998, from 1996 as captain. In 1994 Australia made it into the relegation round to qualify for the soccer World Cup in the USA. There they met vice world champion Argentina. The first leg in Sydney ended 1: 1, the second leg in Argentina they lost 0: 1 through an own goal by Tobin. The greatest success with the national team was for Tobin reaching the final of the Confederations Cup, where they won against North and Central American champions Mexico and South American champions Uruguay and won a draw in the preliminary round of world champions Brazil.
