The Marconi Stallions Football Club is an Australian football club from Sydney , Australia . The club became known by winning the National Soccer League four times . The Marconi Stallions were just one of two clubs that played all seasons in the National Soccer League from 1977 to its dissolution in 2004.
history
The club was originally named the soccer team after Guglielmo Marconi , in Fairfield , a suburb around 20 kilometers from Sydney, home to Marconi clubs founded in 1958 by Italian immigrants. Around the 1990s or later, the team took on the nickname Stallions ("stallions").
There is strong competition from the Sydney United club , whose stadium is only about one kilometer from Club Marconi. The rivalry mostly dates back to 1970 when Marconi Fairfield was promoted to the State League. In 1998 there was a meeting in the NSL Grand Final, which ended with a penalty shootout and was won by Marconi.
