Frank Farina OAM (born September 5, 1964 in Darwin ) is an Australian football coach and former football player . During his soccer career he was active in Australia, Belgium, France and Italy.

Career

For the Australian national soccer team Frank Farina completed 37 A-internationals between 1984 and 1995 , in which he scored ten goals. After seven years as a professional in Europe, he moved back to his homeland in 1995 and took over the Brisbane Strikers as player- coach . In 1997 he was named Coach of the Year in Australia.

On August 13, 1999 he became national coach. With his team, he missed qualifying for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea, but his contract was extended anyway. Since with a few exceptions all players in Europe earn their money with different clubs, mainly in the English Premier League , Farina moved from Australia to the British capital London in 2005 . On June 29, 2005, he resigned from his position as national coach.

From November 15, 2006 to mid-October 2009, he trained Queensland Roar (since 2009 Brisbane Roar). After being repeatedly identified for being drunk and driving , he was released without notice. In 2011 and 2012 he was the national coach of the Papua-New Guinean national soccer team . At the end of November 2012, he was introduced as the successor to Ian Crook as coach at Sydney FC , where he was sacked in April 2014.

In December 2015, Farina took over the position of national coach for Fiji , after having been technical director for the country's U-20 team the year before and also taking on the role of coach in 2015 in preparation for the U-20 World Cup in New Zealand .
