Stephen Christopher "Steve" Corica (born March 24, 1973 in Innisfail , Australia ) is a former Australian football player .

Club career

Start of career

In 1990, he made his first professional appearances at the then first division club Marconi-Fairfield . He developed into a regular player and was named the best young player of the season in 1993. Two years later Corica decided to continue his career in Europe.

Abroad

Finally he signed a contract with the then English second division club Leicester City . Just a year later he was drawn to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £ 1.1m , for whom he played over 100 games by 2000. After a year-long stay in the J-League , he moved back to England for FC Walsall before returning to Australia in 2004.

In Australia

After 10 years abroad, he signed a contract with Sydney FC in the newly formed A-League . Together with Dwight Yorke , he led Sydney to the final of the championship, in which he scored the only goal of the game. His goals were also of immense importance to the club at the continental level.

International career

Corica went through all youth national teams and also completed senior national team games. He participated with the Australian Olympic selection in 1992 and 1996 in the Olympic Games. In 1992 the national team made it to the semi-finals, but narrowly missed a medal in the end.

On April 16, 1993 he made his debut in the game against Singapore for the Socceroos team . He completed over 30 games and took part in 2 Confederation Cups .

In August 2006 he played an international match against Kuwait after being absent for more than five years.
