The New South Wales Premier League is the top division of football in the southern half of the Australian state of New South Wales and ranks second behind the A-League in the Australian league pyramid. Starting from Lake Macquarie , the Northern New South Wales State Football League is the relevant division under the Northern New South Wales Football Association . The New South Wales Premier League is under the auspices of the New South Wales Football Association, Football NSW .
In contrast to the A-League, there is a relegation, but the first place cannot be promoted, as the next higher division is the A-League , in which there is now no relegation system.
Just like in the A-League, the season is divided into the regular season (premiers) and playoffs. The top four teams of the premiers then play the championship title of the New South Wales Premier League in the playoffs.
In 2008, similar to the A-League, a women's and youth competition was added to the men's competition, with women's and youth teams from the clubs represented in the men's competition.
