Craig Andrew Foster (born April 15, 1969 in Lismore ) is a former Australian football player who was active from 1989 to 2003. He also played as one of only a few Aborigines in the Australian national football team .

Career

Foster graduated from the Australian Institute of Sport in 1987 and played at Sydney United from 1989 . In the same year he moved to the Sunshine Georgies , a club from a Melbourne suburb. He stayed there until 1990. Various engagements followed in various smaller clubs from Australia, Hong Kong , Singapore and Serbia in 1991 and 1992 . From 1995 to 1996 Foster played with Adelaide City , and in the following two years with the Marconi Stallions . In 1997 he moved to England for Portsmouth FC , where he played 16 games and scored two goals. From 1998 to 2000 Foster played for Crystal Palace , in 2000 he returned to his homeland to Northern Spirit FC in the north of Sydney, in 2003 he officially ended his career, in 2007 he was again involved with Waverley Old Boys FC.

After Foster played in the Australian U-17 national team in 1985 , he made his senior team debut in 1996. In 1997 he took part in the Confederations Cup , in 1996 and 2000 he won the OFC Nations Cup . He played a total of 29 international matches between 1996 and 2000, scoring nine goals.

Foster, who was also active in the players' union, is working these days as a commentator for the Australian state television broadcaster SBS .
