Matthew "Matt" Horsley (born June 9, 1972 in Wollongong ) is a former Australian football player . The midfielder won four Australian league titles in his 15-year career.

Career

Horsley first played in amateur football from Illawarra for the Balgownie Rangers , before moving to the National Soccer League (NSL) for the Wollongong Wolves in the 1990/91 season. There he quickly established himself as a regular player and top performer, as captain, Horsley Wollongong led to two championships in 2000 and 2001 and to winning the Oceania Club Championship in 2000/01 . He received the Joe Marston Medal for his performance in the 2001 final . The two-time championship team around Horsley, Scott Chipperfield , Paul Reid , Sasho Petrovski , Alvin Ceccoli and Stuart Young are among the strongest in NSL history, but broke apart after winning the second title and Horsley switched to financially more potent league rivals Perth Glory .

The Glory team around the two top strikers Damian Mori and Bobby Despotovski reached the championship final three times in a row between 2002 and 2004, after a defeat in 2002 they won two titles. Horsley came to four finals in a row (two with Wollongong, two with Perth), only the last triumph in 2004 he was missing. After the NSL was discontinued in 2004, Horsley stayed with Perth and briefly continued his career in the newly formed A-League . As early as December 2005, he terminated his contract with Perth and at the same time ended his professional career in order to be able to support his wife, who had been transferred to Kununurra as a police officer .

In the Australian national team dominated by European regional players , Horsley came in February 2000 in a friendly against Bulgaria for a 20-minute mission.
