The Schrotthorn (ital. Corno del Ceppo , 2590  m slm ) is a mountain in the middle east ridge of the Sarntal Alps . From the east it appears as a dominant mountain at the end of the Schalderer valley . Seen from the west, from the Durnholz Valley , together with the Leyrspitze ( 2542  m ), a little more than half a kilometer to the northwest, it forms a stately summit structure, but appears less powerful than from the west side. As the highest mountain in the vicinity, the Schrotthorn offers a comprehensive view, especially of the Dolomites . A little south of the summit is the Schalderer Scharte ( 2324  m ), a transition from the Eisack Valley via the Schalderer Valley to the Durnholzer Valley and Sarntal . There is an unusually large summit cross on the summit.

Climbs

The ascent usually takes place via the Schalderer Scharte, which is south of the summit. This can be reached from the west, from Durnholz , or from the east, from Schalders . The ascent from Durnholz is significantly shorter and begins at Lake Durnholz . It takes about 2½ to 3 hours from there to the Schalderer Scharte. From the saddle it is now easy to walk over the grassy, partly rugged, broad south ridge in a little less than 45 minutes to the summit. The entire ascent route is marked .
