Durnholz Valley
The Durnholzer Tal ( Italian Valdurna ), or Durnholz for short , is the longest and most important side valley of the Sarntal in South Tyrol ( Italy ). On its west side it is accompanied by the central ridge of the Sarntal Alps , on its east side by the east ridge and the Getrum ridge that branches off from it. At Astfeld it branches off from the Sarntal in a north-easterly direction and is about twelve kilometers long. The valley is traversed by the Durnholzer Bach and ends at Durnholzer See . There are two villages in the valley: Reinswald , where there is also a ski area, is located on the eastern flank of the valley , further up in the Durnholz valley . The entire valley belongs to the area of the municipality of Sarntal .
The Durnholzer Bach is diverted several times to generate electricity and flows into the Talfer near Astfeld .
