Reinswald ( Italian: San Martino in Sarentino ) is a village in the Durnholzer Tal , a high valley in the Sarntal Alps in South Tyrol ( Italy ), about 1500  m slm high . It belongs to the municipality Sarntal and has about 600 inhabitants.

The mountain settlement was first mentioned in 1177 as “ Rineswalt ” in a papal privilege for the Augustinian canons of Neustift near Brixen , which was wealthy here. The name, a patronymic icon , means 'forest of a certain pure (hard)' and is probably formed from the diminutive of the name Reginhart used as a pet form .

The parish church of Reinswald is dedicated to Saint Martin of Tours (the Italian name was derived from this in the early 20th century).

The Reinswald ski area has a total of 14 km of slopes up to 2460  m above sea level and is a member of the Ortler Ski Arena . There is a gondola lift, a chair lift and two drag lifts.

The start of the 4.5 km long toboggan run can also be reached with the gondola . In summer Reinswald is also popular with hikers.
