A-League 2016/17

The A-League 2017/18 was the 13th season of the highest Australian football league since it was founded in 2005. The regular season began on October 6, 2017 and ended on April 15, 2018. This was followed by the final round. Defending champion was Sydney FC .

mode

The clubs initially played a three round tournament , which resulted in a total of 27 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference from all games
  3. Number of goals in all games
  4. Number of points scored in direct comparison
  5. Goal difference in direct comparison

At the end of the regular season, the two teams with the highest points qualified directly for the semi-finals of the final round. Your two opponents were determined in the quarter-finals between the table third to sixth. The better team of the regular season was set against the worst team in both rounds. The winner of the Grand Final was the Australian champion.

The best team of the regular season, also known as the Premiership winner, and the winner of the Grand Final qualified for the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2019 . The runner-up in the regular season starts in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. If the two best in the table would meet in the Grand Final, the second in the league would have moved up to the group stage and the third would have taken over the place in the qualifying round.

There was no relegation to the second-rate National Premier Leagues .
