Leigh Michael Broxham (born January 13, 1988 in Melbourne ) is an Australian football player . The midfielder has been under contract with Melbourne Victory in the A-League since 2006 .

Club career

Broxham played at the Victorian Institute of Sport between 2003 and 2005 . Two broken legs in the first half of 2006 ensured that he initially received no professional contract in the A-League . He trained with Melbourne Victory and was employed by the club as a team supervisor and kit manager in order to have an income. Towards the end of the 2006/07 season he was offered a professional contract and he was used in the last three games of the league round. In the championship final against Adelaide United he was substituted on after an hour in a 6-0 victory.

In the 2007/08 season Broxham was part of the regular staff for much of the season, but missed the finals with Melbourne lying in 5th place. In the second championship title within three seasons Broxham played only a subordinate role and was only eight times as a substitute in the 2008/09 season , in the finals he was not involved. His situation changed fundamentally after good season preparation in the 2009/10 season when he only missed his only game of the season due to a yellow card suspension and qualified as the best U-21 player of the month in September 2009 for the election of the youth player of the year. He finally reached the championship finals with Melbourne, where they lost to rivals Sydney FC on penalties. Broxham was one of two Melbourne players to convert his penalty.

National team

In 2005 he took part as a regular player with the Australian U-17 selection at the U-17 World Cup in Peru. After regular appearances in the U-23 team , he came in March 2008 in a friendly against Singapore for the first time for the Australian senior team . As one of four reserve players on call, he narrowly missed participation in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
