The stratovolcano Mount Cleveland on Chuginadak Island is the largest volcano on the Islands of Four Mountains , which belong to the Alëuten island chain . It is located in the western part of the uninhabited island, 13 kilometers from the neighboring volcanic island of Mount Tana . With its very symmetrical shape, it corresponds to the classic image of a volcano.

The indigenous people worshiped him as the god of fire. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the chain. Numerous cooled lava flows can be seen on its flanks .

In 1944, an outbreak is said to have killed a soldier on the island. He is the only known victim of the Aleutian volcanoes.

Younger eruptions of the volcano were characterized by short ash - eruptions and at times accompanied by lava fountains and flows. Small eruptions took place in November 2012 and May 2013.
