Glen Moss (born January 19, 1983 in Hastings ) is a New Zealand football player . The goalkeeper has been under contract with Wellington Phoenix since 2012 and also plays for the New Zealand national team .
Club career
Moss played in regional leagues in Australia for the first few years of his career. In 2005 he moved to the A-League club New Zealand Knights , where he made nine appearances. In the summer of 2006, he was so convincing in a friendly with the New Zealand national team against Brazil that he was immediately signed by the Romanian club Dinamo Bucharest . After a year and only three competitive appearances (two of them in qualifying for the UEFA Cup ) Moss returned to New Zealand and joined the local professional club Wellington Phoenix . There he was in direct competition with Mark Paston , who is also his greatest adversary for the place in the national team. While Moss was able to establish himself as a regular goalkeeper at Wellington, Paston was preferred in the national team.
For the 2009/10 season , Moss moves to league rivals Melbourne Victory . There he prevailed in the pre-season against Mitchell Langerak in the fight for the regular place in goal, but lost it after the 14th match day to the younger competitor.
In July 2010, Moss signed a two-year contract with Gold Coast United , where he replaced the migrated Jess Vanstrattan .
In 2012 he moved back to Wellington Phoenix , where he again had to fight for the place between the posts with Mark Paston . Moss watched most of the first season from the bench. After Paston ended his career for the 2013-14 season, Glen Moss was promoted to the team's first goalkeeper.
National team
Moss made his debut in the national team in 2006 against Malaysia , in 2009 he took part as a goalkeeper at the Confederations Cup in South Africa , where he played three games. After he received a red card for insulting the referee in the qualifying game against Fiji for the 2010 World Cup, he was suspended for four World Cup games. This ensured that he could not take part in the first two group games in the finals. Nevertheless, national coach Ricki Herbert nominated him , but he was not used because his long-term competitor Mark Paston was between the posts after good performance in the last group game against Paraguay .
