James Troisi (born July 3, 1988 in Adelaide ) is an Australian football player .

Club career

Childhood and Adolescence, until 2005

Troisi was born in 1988 to an Italian and a Greek woman in Adelaide, Australia. At the age of seven he first came into contact with football at his school and some time later joined a club. There he was looked after by former Serie A professional Mario Corti , among others . Troisi came to the Burning Ambition Academy at the age of eleven . In 2005 he took the plunge to Europe and went to Newcastle United's youth academy .

Newcastle United, 2005-2008

At Newcastle United, he played the first two years mostly in the youth team, but was also occasionally used in games of the reserve team. In January 2007 he signed his first professional contract, which was valid until 2008. Troisi stayed in the following 18 months without a competitive game for the professional team Newcastle. He was only used in the pre-season 2007/08 in a few friendly matches and was on the bench several times in games in the Premier League and the UEFA Cup. No new contract offer was made to Troisi by Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan and so he left the English club in summer 2008.

A few months earlier, Troisi was about to move to Dutch club Roda JC Kerkrade after convincing in a trial training session in January 2008. However, since Newcastle insisted on training compensation, the change did not take place.

Stages in Turkey since 2008

Shortly before the end of the transfer period, Troisi signed a three-year contract with the Turkish capital club Gençlerbirliği Ankara , where another Australian was already under contract with Bruce Djite . He made his competitive debut for the club on September 14, 2008 as a substitute against Eskişehirspor . After his debut season in Turkish football, in which he scored six goals in 29 games, he moved to league rivals Kayserispor , against whom he had scored three goals in a league game in January 2009. At the end of the 2011/12 season, he parted ways with Kayserispor.

Atalanta Bergamo

In the summer of 2012 he moved to Italy to Atalanta Bergamo and signed a contract there until 2016. In Serie A he was used a total of six times, in the Coppa Italia twice. He did not score a goal during this time.

Melbourne Victory

For the 2013/14 season he moved to Melbourne Victory in his Australian homeland for a year on loan .

National team

Troisi came in an Olympic qualifier against Saudi Arabia in April 2007 for the first time for the Australian Olympic team (U23) used. After successfully qualifying, he was appointed to the 18-man squad for the finals of the 2008 Olympic football tournament in China by selection coach Graham Arnold . The final round, in which Australia failed with just one point in the preliminary round, was disappointing for Troisi. In the second group game against Argentina he played the first 65 minutes, in the last and decisive game against Ivory Coast he was substituted on in the 86th minute.

On March 22, 2008, he made his debut for the Australian senior team in a goalless friendly against Singapore .
