In the club
He began his career in the youth of AC Milan . Between 1998 and 2000 he played on loan for the clubs FC Modena , AC Prato and AS Varese in Serie C , before he was signed by Serie B club FC Empoli from 2000 to 2002 .
In 2002, the offensive all-rounder, who mainly plays by storm, moved to Middlesbrough FC in the English Premier League . In the 2004/05 season he was first awarded to FC Parma and in the return series to AC Siena in the Italian Serie A , before he returned to FC Middlesbrough for the 2005/06 season.
In the 2005/06 UEFA Cup , Maccarone scored the decisive fourth goal for his team in the quarter-final and semi-final second leg and thus played a decisive role in the final of Middlesbrough FC.
