Francesco Tavano (born March 2, 1979 in Caserta ) is an Italian football player . Tavano is the club's record goalscorer for FC Empoli, and with 116 goals in Serie B he is the fourth-best scorer of all time.

Career

Tavano's professional career began in 1999 at AC Pisa . In 2001 he moved to FC Empoli after playing for the fourth division club Rondinella Calcio for a year .

In the 2005/06 season, Francesco Tavano played his fifth season in a row with FC Empoli, during this time he was relegated and promoted twice with this club (most recently in the 2005/06 season). During these years he became the best scorer at FC Empoli. He scored 19 goals in 37 games in the 2005/06 season.

After many transfer rumors ( Real Madrid are also said to have been interested in him), Tavano and his club decided to fix a transfer with the Spanish first division club Valencia CF. He signed a four-year contract. Tavano couldn't get on with his moody manner in Valencia at all. He fell out with the coaching team, which meant that in his short time at Valencia was only a reserve player. He complained that Valencia's game was not geared enough towards him. However, Tavano was not the first Italian player to fail in the Spanish league . In the winter break of 2006/07 Tavano finally returned to Serie A as a free loan to AS Roma . The capital club had secured a purchase option for the next season set at 10 million euros. AS Roma did not pull this option, instead his move to AS Livorno was announced in the summer of 2007 . Tavano signed a four-year deal with Livorno, which transferred six million euros to Valencia CF. He wore the jersey with the number 10 at Livorno, which was not awarded for two years in honor of Igor Protti . After Livorno was relegated to Serie B in the 2007/08 season, he was able to help his team with 24 goals in the following season to get promoted again.

Others

The fans of FC Empoli call him "Ciccio-gol".
