Rotten Sound is a Finnish grindcore band from Vaasa that was founded in July 1993 by Mika Aalto. Their current line-up consists of Mika Aalto ( electric guitar ), Kristian Toivainen ( electric bass ), Sami Latva ( drums ) and Keijo Niinimaa ( vocals ). Since the mid-2000s, the band's releases hit the Finnish album charts.

Band history

Founded in July 1993 by members of the death metal band Vomituration, Rotten took Sound in August in the cast Mika Aalto (guitar), Ville Väisänen (drums), Masa Kovero (bass) and Keijo Bagge (vocal), the Single Sick Bastard on , which was released in 1994 by the Belgian DIY label Genet Records. Then drummer Väisänen was replaced by Kai Hahto and bassist Kovero by Pekka Ranta and the single Loosin 'Face was released . After recording more singles and EPs , the cast recorded their debut album Under Pressure in 1996 , which was released in 1997 by the Spanish independent label Repulse Records . After that, Juha Yli-Koski joined the band as a second guitarist and in 1999 the second album Drain was released . In the early 2000s, Mika Häkki, a new bassist, came along and Rotten Sound received a record deal with Necropolis Records. There the EP Still Psycho (2000) was released and after the departure of guitarist Yli-Koski the third studio album Murderworks (2002). On the subsequent tour through Europe and the USA , the live recordings were recorded, which were released in 2004 as DVD Murderlive . Bassist Mika Häkki was replaced by Toni Pihlaja during this tour. Meanwhile under contract with Spinefarm Records , two more albums were released with Exit (2005) and Cycles (2008), which, like the 2006 EP Consume to Contaminate , were able to place in the Finnish music charts. In the meantime, drummer Kai Hahto was replaced by Sami Latva in 2006. In November 2009 Relapse Records announced that the label had signed the band. The first Relapse release was the EP Napalm , followed by the last studio album to date, Cursed (2011). A new album was released in 2016 with Abuse to Suffer .

style

Alex Henderson from Allmusic names bands like Slayer , Napalm Death , Suicidal Tendencies , Entombed and Carcass as the main influences of Rotten Sound and describes the music as Grindcore with influences from Black Metal and Death Metal . Rotten Sound itself sees the band's roots in grindcore, influenced by hardcore punk , of the late 1980s. The band not only attaches importance to blast beats , but also tries to give the music dynamism by changing tempo. Rotten Sound's music is compared to the Swedish grindcore band Nasum . The text concept addresses anti-racism , vegetarianism and general social criticism , but singer Keijo endeavors to make the lyrics darker and more apocalyptic than his role models for Napalm Death.
