Unholy Grave is a Japanese grindcore band from Nagoya .

Band history

Takaho Komatsu founded Unholy Grave in 1993 after leaving the band Nausea (not to be confused with Nausea ). The name is based on the song Beyond the Unholy Grave by Death . After two demos , the group recorded more than 70 records in changing line-ups, including various split albums and EPs . She also participated in several compilations . Unholy Grave toured in various European countries, the USA, Indonesia and Malaysia .

Takaho also runs a record store and his own label.

Music style and ideology

Unholy Graves style of music has hardly changed during its entire existence. The music can be assigned to grindcore. The influences are particularly in early grindcore bands, as well as Japanese and English hardcore punk . But early Death and Thrash Metal is also called an influence. Influences came from bands such as Napalm Death , Repulsion , Discharge and Massacre . The band was particularly drawn to the do-it-yourself attitude of the punk scene at the beginning .

The music is played very quickly. Takaho Komatsu's singing alternates between high-pitched screeching and spoken chant reminiscent of a megaphone . The individual songs are rarely longer than two minutes and are in the mid-tempo to high-speed range. Production and songwriting are deliberately kept raw, mistakes are tolerated on most albums. Most of the texts are written in plain, often grammatically incorrect English and mostly deal with socially critical topics. The band is strictly anti - fascist and carries this outward through appropriate symbolism as well as through lyrics.

Indexing in China

When travelers enter the People's Republic of China , the Red Chinese border authorities search their smartphones for prohibited content using special software , including the song "Taiwan - Another China", which is identified using a checksum .
