European Short Track Championships 2011

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2011 European Short Track Championships took place from January 14 to 16, 2011 in the Dutch town of Heerenveen .

After The Hague in 2001 and Zoetermeer in 2004 , a Dutch city has organized the continental competitions for the third time. A total of four European championship titles were awarded, one each in the all-around and one in the relay to men and women. In order to determine the all-around European champion, the athletes competed over the three distances 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m. The eight best placed athletes in the all-round competition after these three routes then competed in the 3000 m superfinal. The winners over the individual courses were not crowned European champions, but received “small medals” with the exception of over 3000 m.

Participating Nations

A total of 131 athletes from 22 countries took part in the European Championships, including 77 men and 54 women. The two reigning champions in the all-around competition - the Italian Nicola Rodigari and the Czech Kateřina Novotná - competed again. With the Latvian Haralds Silovs and Arianna Fontana from Italy, two former European champions also competed in the all-around competition. The German team, which won the women's relay at the 2010 home European championships in Dresden , consisted of five men and four women, three and two of whom started in the all-around competition. The other athletes only took part in the relay competition.
