Sjinkie Knegt (born July 5, 1989 in Bantega ) is a Dutch short tracker .

Career

As a C-Junior Knegt was third in the Dutch championship of his age group in 2004. He also achieved some good results and victories in other lower-class races in the 2004/05 season, including the 2005 national C-Junior Champion . After he was promoted to the B-Junior squad in the 2005/06 season, he also achieved decent results in his few international starts, and he was second in the Dutch championship. Knegt also triumphed in the B-Junior class at the national championship in The Hague , so that a year later he was even nominated for the Short Track World Cup as A-Junior . There he reached the semi-finals as the best result in the relay, on the individual routes he was eliminated early in the heats. He also started at the Junior World Championships in Bolzano , but he could not repeat his good times and finished twenty-fifth overall, with the relay he failed in the quarterfinals.

Knegt started the World Cup 2008/09 very well, among other things, his best result was a tenth place over 1000 meters at the fourth World Cup in Nagano . In the season, the best placement achieved seventh place. At the European Championships in Turin in 2009 , he won silver with the relay over 5000 m. In March 2009 he was seventh over 1000 m at the World Championships in Vienna . In the following season he mostly achieved midfield placements in the World Cup. The tenth place over 1000 m at the World Cup in Marquette was his best placement. In January 2010 he was eighth in the all- around at the 2010 European Championships in Dresden . At his first Olympic participation in Vancouver , he finished 28th over 500m, 14th over 1500m and 11th over 1000m. His best individual placement at the subsequent World Championships in Sofia was 12th over 1500 m. In the 2010/11 season he reached his first World Cup podiums with third place in the relay over 5000 m and second place over 1000 m at the World Cup in Shanghai . At the following World Cup in Moscow , he won his first World Cup victory with the relay over 5000 m. At the 2011 European Short Track Championships in Heerenveen , he won bronze in the all-around event and gold in the 5000 m relay. At the end of the season he came at the Short Track World Championships in Sheffield on 27th place over 500 m, 25th place over 1000 m and 12th place over 1500 m. He finished the season in sixth place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m.

In the 2011/12 season , Knegt won the gold medal at the 2012 European Short Track Championships in Mladá Boleslav in the all - around event and with the 5000 m relay. At the World Cup finals in Dordrecht he came back on the podium with second place over 1000 m and first place with the relay over 5000 m and ended the season in seventh place in the overall World Cup over 1000 m. At the 2012 World Championships in Shanghai , he won silver with the relay over 5000 m. In the following season he achieved second place four times and third place over 1500 m in the World Cup with the relay. At the 2013 European Championships in Malmö , he won the silver medal in the all-around competition and with the relay. In March 2013 he won bronze with the relay and silver over 1000 m at the World Championships in Debrecen . In the 2013/14 Short Track World Cup , he won over 1500 m at the World Cup in Kolomna and third place in the relay and thus achieved fifth place in the overall World Cup over 1500 m. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he won the bronze medal over 1000 m. At the end of the season he became world champion with the 5000 m relay at the 2014 World Cup in Montreal and achieved silver in over 1000 m.

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season , Knegt took third place over 1000 m and second place over 500 m at the World Cup in Salt Lake City . In the further course of the season he won two World Cup wins with the relay and came on the podium ten times. At the 2015 European Championships in Dordrecht , he won bronze with the relay and gold in the all-around competition. In March 2015, at the World Championships in Moscow, he won bronze with the relay, silver in the 1500 m and gold in the all-around and 3000 m. He finished the season in sixth place in the overall world cup over 500 m and second in the overall world cup over 1000 m. At the beginning of the following season he finished at the World Cup in Montreal over 1500 m and with the relay in each case the second place. At the following World Cup in Toronto , he also came second in the 1500 m. This was followed by two victories in Nagoya , each over 1500 m and with the relay, and in Shanghai , he took second place over 500 m and 1500 m. In Dresden he was third in the 1500 m and finally came second in the World Cup over 1500 m. At the 2016 European Championships in Sochi , he won the gold medal with the relay. In addition, he was fourth in the all-around event, taking first place over 500 m. In the 2017/18 season he won the World Cup four times, three times over 1500 m and once with the relay. He also came second six times and third three times, winning the world cup over 1500 m. At the European Championships in Turin in 2017 , he won the bronze medal in the all-around competition and the gold medal with the relay. In the individual races he was third over 3000 m and first over 500 m. In March 2017, at the World Championships in Rotterdam , he won the silver medal in the all- around event and gold medals over 500 m, 3000 m and the relay.

After third place over 1500 m in Budapest at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Knegt won over 1000 m in Dordrecht and also took second place over 500 m and with the relay. This was followed by second place over 1500 m in Shanghai and second place with the relay in Seoul . Finally he reached fourth place in the world cup over 1000 m and second place in the world cup over 1500 m. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he won the silver medal over 1500 m and the gold medal at the 2018 European Championships in Dresden over 500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m, in all- around competitions and with the relay. In March 2018, he won the bronze medal over 1000 m at the World Championships in Montreal . In the 2018/19 season he won the 1500 m in Salt Lake City and in Almaty with the relay. He was also second in Almaty over 1500 m and in Calgary third with the relay. In the mixed relay competitions he won second place in Calgary and Salt Lake City and reached seventh place in the 1500 m World Cup at the end of the season.
