Daan Breeuwsma (born December 29, 1987 in Heerenveen ) is a Dutch short tracker .

Career

Breeuwsma made his debut in Salt Lake City in October 2008 in the Short Track World Cup and finished 35th in the 1500 m. At the following European Short Track Championships in 2009 in Turin , he won silver with the relay over 5000 m. In the 2010/11 season he reached his first podium finishes in the World Cup in Shanghai with third place and in Moscow with first place in the relay. At the 2011 European Short Track Championships in Heerenveen , he won gold with the relay. In the following season he came in third place over 500 m in Shanghai and in Dordrecht on first place with the relay over 5000 m. At the European Short Track Championships in Mladá Boleslav in 2012 , he won the relay gold medal as in the previous year. In March 2012, he won silver with the relay at the 2012 Short Track World Championships in Shanghai. In the 2012/13 season he finished second three times in the World Cup with the relay. At the 2013 European Short Track Championships in Malmö , he won the silver medal with the relay. In March 2013 he won the bronze medal with the relay over 5000 m at the 2013 Short Track World Championships in Debrecen . The following season he came in third place with the relay at the World Cup in Turin. Silver with the relay at the 2014 European Short Track Championships in Dresden . In his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he finished fourth in the relay. In March 2014, he won the gold medal at the 2014 Short Track World Championships in Montreal with the relay team with Niels Kerstholt , Freek van der Wart and Sjinkie Knegt . In the 2014/15 season he won the World Cup twice with the relay and once achieved second and once third place with the relay. In January 2015 he won the bronze medal with the relay at the 2015 European Short Track Championships in Dordrecht. He also came third there over 1500 m. At the following Short Track World Championships in 2015 in Moscow, he also won bronze with the relay.

In the 2015/16 season, Breeuwsma won the relay in Nagoya and finished second in the relay in Montreal . At the 2016 European Short Track Championships in Sochi , he won the gold medal with the relay. In the following season he came in the World Cup with the relay four times in second place and in Minsk first place. At the European Championships 2017 in Turin and at the World Championships 2017 in Rotterdam , he won the gold medal with the relay. In the 2017/18 season he was second in the relay in Dordrecht and Seoul . At the 2018 European Championships in Dresden , he won the gold medal with the relay and came fourth with the relay at the 2018 World Championships in Montreal. At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he achieved 26th place over 1000 m and seventh place over 500 m. The following season he won the season in Almaty and ran with the season in Calgary in third place. He was also runner-up in the mixed relay in Calgary and Salt Lake City . At the 2019 European Championships in Dordrecht, he won the silver medal with the relay. In the all-around competition he came 11th there. In the 2019/20 season he reached ninth place in the World Cup over 1000 m with four top ten placements. He also won in Shanghai with the mixed relay and was third in Nagoya with the mixed relay. At the 2020 European Championships in Debrecen , he won the silver medal with the relay.
