European Short Track Championships 2012

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2012 European Short Track Championships took place from January 27 to 29, 2012 in Mladá Boleslav , Czech Republic . This was the first time that the continental title fights took place in the Czech Republic.

A total of four European championship titles were awarded, one each in the all-around and one in the relay to men and women. In order to determine the all-around European champion, the athletes competed over the three distances 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m. The eight best placed athletes in the all-round competition after these three routes then competed in the 3000 m superfinal. The winners over the individual courses were not crowned European champions, but received “small medals” with the exception of over 3000 m.

In the women's all-around competition , Arianna Fontana defended her title from last year. She won confidently in front of Jorien ter Mors and Martina Valcepina . In the men's category , Sjinkie Knegt won the all- around title for the first time. He prevailed over Niels Kerstholt and Thibaut Fauconnet . In the relay competitions the Dutch quartets defended their previous year's titles.
