Yara van Kerkhof (born May 31, 1990 in Zoetermeer ) is a Dutch short tracker .

Career

She has been part of the Dutch national team since 2005. Two years later she won a national championship title for the first time over 500 m. In October 2010, she finally made her World Cup debut in Montreal . In her first World Cup season , her best result in a single race was an eleventh place over 500 m at the World Cup in Dresden . In Changchun she also reached the final with the relay and reached her first World Cup podium in third place. Van Kerkhof also started the relay at the European Championships in Heerenveen and won the gold medal with her relay colleagues. Then the season surprised by winning the silver medal at the World Championships in Sheffield . At the 2012 European Championships in Mladá Boleslav , she was able to defend the title with the relay.

In the 2017/18 season van Kerkhof won the silver medal with the relay at the 2018 World Championships in Montreal and the silver medal over 1500 m at the 2018 European Championships in Dresden . At the season highlight, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , van Kerkhof won her first Olympic medal in the 500 m discipline with the silver medal. With the relay she won the bronze medal there. In the World Cup in Seoul she took third place over 1000 m and first place with the relay and at the end of the season she reached ninth place in the World Cup over 500 m and fifth place in the World Cup over 1000 m. In the 2018/19 season she won in Almaty and Turin with the relay. In addition, she took second place in Dresden with the relay and in Calgary over 500 m and reached fourth place in the World Cup over 1000 m. At the European Championships 2019 in Dordrecht , she won the gold medal with the relay. In the all-around competition, she achieved 16th place there. In the following season she came in second place three times over 500 m and thus finished third in the World Cup. over 500 m. In addition, she got two wins and a second place with the relay. At the European Championships 2020 in Debrecen , she won the gold medal with the relay and took 12th place in the all-around competition.

Van Kerkhof's sister Sanne is also a successful short tracker.
