European Short Track Championships 2003

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2003 European Short Track Championships took place from January 17th to 19th, 2003 in Saint Petersburg . Russia hosted the continental title fights for the first time. A total of four European championship titles were awarded, one each in the all-around competition and one in the relay for women and men. The host was the International Skating Union (ISU).

Evgenia Radanova dominated the women’s competitions. She won the fourth all-around title in a row and also won all four individual distances. Stéphanie Bouvier won silver and Nina Evtejewa won bronze . For the men, there was an Italian triple success in the all-around competition. Fabio Carta won ahead of Michele Antonioli and Nicola Franceschina . The season finals were not very exciting. In the women’s category, Italy won clearly ahead of Russia and the Netherlands, and in the men’s category, Italy also won with a clear lead over Great Britain and France.
