Sebastian Praus (born August 31, 1980 in Dresden ) is a former German short tracker .

Career

Sebastian Praus was active for the ESC Dresden until April 1996 , from May 1996 until the end of his career for the ice skating club Olympia Mainz . At the 2002 World Championships he was 28th over 500m, 34th over 1000m, 30th over 1500m, 36th over 3000m and 36th in the all-around ranking. At the European Championships in Grenoble , he won bronze in the relay. In the 2002/03 World Cup season he reached a podium placement in Bormio with the German relay team as third and was eighth overall in the all-around competition. At the European Championships in Saint Petersburg in 2003 , they added 21st place over 500 m and five over 1000 m and 1500 m. With the relay he was disqualified. At the World Championships of the year Praus was 25th in the 500m, 1000m and 1500m and 20th in the Mahrkampf classification. With the season he was fifth and missed the final by one place. A year later, Praus took fifth place over 500 m, six over 1500 m and eleven over 1000 m at the European Championships in Zoetermeer , and with the relay he won bronze medals with Thomas Bauer , André Hartwig and Arian Nachbar , as well over 3000 m behind Pieter Gysel . The results at the 2004 World Championships in Sweden were also comparatively good. Praus 24th over 500, 25th over 1000m, tenth over 1500m and 15th in the all-around classification. In the 2004/05 season he was seventh in the overall ranking of the World Cup over 1500 m. At the European Championships in Turin in 2005 , Praus missed out on medals in the 500 m and 1000 m as fourth and thus participant in the finals, and in seventh place he achieved another top ten placement. In the 3000 m final he won - again behind Pieter Gysel - the silver medal, together with Bauer, Hartwig and neighbor he won the relay title. The World Championships in China were less successful . Praus was 33rd over 500 m, eleventh over 1000 m and 18th over 1500 m and in the all-around competition. With the relay he came in eighth place. In the 2006 Olympic year, he won the European Championships in Krynica-Zdrój with Bauer, Hartwig and Tyson Heung the relay bronze medal. The highlight of the season and career so far was participation in the Olympic Games in Turin, where he was 10th over 1000 m, 21st over 1500 m and seventh in the relay with Bauer, Heung, Neighbor and Hartwig. The World Championships in Minneapolis ended the season. Over 500 m he took 32nd place, was 37th over 1000 m, 23rd over 1500 m and 30th in the all-around competition. Praus finished sixth in the season.

The 2006/07 season brought Praus in Montreal with the relay again as third-placed a podium result. At the 2007 European Championships in Sheffield , he won the title with Robert Becker , Paul Herrmann and Heung. At the World Championships in Italy Praus finished 44th over 500 m, was 18th over 1000 m and 21st over 1500 m and sixth in the relay. Finally, he came sixth at the 2007 team world championships in Budapest with Becker, Torsten Kröger , Herrmann and Heung. The 2008/09 season brought again two third places with the relay in the World Cup. In Turin , the 2009 European Championships were the first highlight of the season. He reached the final over 1500 m and was only seventh due to a fall, over 500 m, 1000 m and with the relay he was eliminated in the semi-finals. In the all-around competition he came eleventh as the best German of the tournament. At the World Championships in Vienna , Praus with Heung, Kröger and Herrmann just missed a medal in fourth place in the relay. He was 26th over 500 m, 21st over 1000 m, 25th over 1500 m and 22nd in the all- around competition. He finished sixth in the team world championships in Heerenveen with Heung, Herrmann, Seifert and Becker. The first major event in 2010 was the European Championships in Dresden . Praus won the relay silver medal behind Italy at his last continental championship with Heung, Herrmann and Seifert. The highlight of the season was the Olympic Games in Vancouver , where Praus was eleventh over 1500 m and with Heung, Herrmann and Seifert in the relay race reached seventh place. At the World Championships in Sofia he won the bronze medal with Heung, Herrmann and Seifert. Praus' last international championship was the 2010 team world championships in Bormio , where he finished fifth with Herrmann, Heung, Seifert and Becker. After the season he ended his international career.
