Veronika Windisch (born April 9, 1982 in Graz ) is the most successful Austrian athlete to date and has participated twice in the Olympic Games with a place in the finals in short track speed skating. Since the end of her career, she has competed in other sports on an international level and has since been Austrian champion in Red Bull Crashed Ice , inline speed skating , cycling on the road and track.
Apart from her sporting career, she completed two university studies in sports science and the teaching degree for biology and sport. In addition, she is a state-certified fitness and athletic as well as train-the-trainer and resilience trainer. From 2004 to 2014 she was also in Austrian Army Sports.
Athletic career
Short track
Veronika Windisch has competed in short track speed skating over all distances (500 m, 1000 m, 1500 m and 3000 m) since 1994 , has been a member of the national team since 1999 and represented the same at major international events as well as in relay and individual competitions.
From 2003 she was a fixed starter in the World Cup, as well as at European and World Championships. She also qualified for the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014 . In the latter, she was the first Austrian on the short track to secure a place in the final.
She also became Vice European Champion and won medals at World Cups and World Military Championships.
Red Bull Crashed Ice 2015 she took part in the Rider's Cup for the first time and landed on the podium in this first race. This placement made it possible to take part in the World Championships, in which she has regularly participated in various countries since 2017. Here, too, she was able to achieve some podium places, such as B. third place in St Paul, USA.
Inline speed skating After first participating in the Austrian state championship on the track in 2016 with first place, she repeated this performance in the points race and in the marathon in 2018 and 2019.
Cycling Since 2014, it also competes for the ASKÖ Graz and has some victories in international Austria Cup races decide for themselves.
In 2016 she was able to hold her own on the track and became Austrian national champion in the 3000 m individual pursuit, which she also achieved in the road cycling criterion in 2019.
Towerrun 2015 she won her first stairway world cup at Schlossberg Graz and has since taken part in major international events. In 2016 she set the world record on Towerrunning St. Stephen's Cathedral.
More She also took part in other outdoor sports events and won a. a. the Linzathlon, twice the Grazathlon and twice the Rock @ Man as part of the Erzberg Adventure Days.
