Elise Christie (born August 13, 1990 in Edinburgh ) is a British short tracker .

Career

Christie was initially active in figure skating , started short track at the age of eleven and concentrated a little later on her current sport. She has been training at the Nottingham Performance Center since 2006 . Christie achieved international success for the first time in the 2007/08 season . She made her debut in the World Cup in Harbin in October 2007 . At the Junior World Championships in Bolzano , she won the silver medal in the 500 m race and crowned the season by winning the relay gold medal at the European Championships in Ventspils . In the 2009/10 season Christie took part in all four World Cup events and reached the final once over 1000 m and 1500 m. At the European Championships in Dresden she was second in the 1500 m and 3000 m and won bronze in the all-around event. She also placed well at the World Championships in Sofia . She was fourth over 1000 m, sixth over 3000 m and eighth in the all-around event. Christie qualified for the Olympics in Vancouver . There she was eliminated over 1000 m and 1500 m in the preliminary run, while she reached the quarter-finals over 500 m and finally came eleventh. Christie reached her first World Cup podium in the 2010/11 season . In Québec she was third in the 1000 m. At the season highlights, Christie could not convince in the season and missed the previous year's results. In the 2011/12 season she reached second place twice in the 1000 m World Cup and finally won her first World Cup race in Moscow . At the World Championships in Shanghai she reached a World Cup final for the first time over 1000 m and just barely missed a medal in fourth. In the 2012/13 season she won the World Cup twice and also came second four times and third twice. She achieved fifth place in the world cup over 1500 m and first place in the world cup over 1000 m. In January 2013 she won the silver medal in the all- around competition at the European Championships in Malmö with first places in the 1000 m and 1500 m. She won the bronze medal at the 2013 World Cup in Debrecen over 1000 m. In the 2013/14 season she came over 1000 m with three top ten placements, including third place in Kolomna to sixth place in the World Cup over 1000 m. In January 2014, she won the silver medal at the European Championships in Dresden in the all- around and with the relay. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , she was disqualified in the semi-finals over 1000 m and in the final over 500 m. At the 2014 World Championships in Montreal she was second in the 500 m and fourth in the all-around competition.

In the 2014/15 season Christie took third place at the World Cup in Seoul over 500 m and 1000 m and second place over 500 m in Dresden . At the 2015 European Championships in Dordrecht , she won the gold medal in the all-around with second place over 3000 m and first place over 500 m and 1500 m. In February 2015 she won the World Cup in Erzurum over 1000 m and also took third place over 500 m. She finally achieved fourth place over 500 m and 1000 m. At the 2015 World Championships in Moscow , she won the silver medal in the 500 m and 1000 m. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, she won her fifth World Cup race over 500 m in Toronto and also came second there over 1000 m. This was followed by three victories and two second places and she achieved sixth place in the World Cup over 1000 m and second place in the World Cup over 500 m. At the 2016 European Championships in Sochi , she took first place over 500 m, 1000 m and 1500 m; like last year she won the gold medal in the all-around competition. In March 2016 she won the bronze medal and the silver medal over 1000 m at the world championships in Seoul in the 1500 m, 3000 m and all- around competitions. In the 2016/17 season she won the World Cup three times over 500 m and twice over 1000 m and thus took third place in the World Cup over 1000 m and second place in the World Cup over 500 m. At the season highlight of the 2017 World Championships in Rotterdam , she won the bronze medal in the 3000 m and the gold medal in the 1000 m, 1500 m and all-around competitions. In the following season, she came in the top ten seven times in the World Cup, including third place over 1000 m in Budapest and first place over 500 m in Seoul , moving over to seventh place in the World Cup over 1000 m and sixth place in the World Cup 500 m. At the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she achieved 17th place over 1500 m and fourth place over 500 m.

In the 2018/19 season, Christie achieved two top ten placements over 500 m, including second place in Turin , and tenth place in the 500 m World Cup. In addition, she was third in Dresden with the mixed relay. At the European Championships in Dordrecht in 2019 , she won the bronze medal in the all-round and over 1000 m and 3000 m and the silver medal over 1500 m.

Christie holds the current British record over 1000 m, 1500 m and 3000 m.

She is studying sports science at Loughborough University .
