Freek van der Wart (born February 1, 1988 in Voorburg ) is a Dutch short tracker .

Career

Van der Wart made his debut in Salt Lake City in October 2008 in the Short Track World Cup and finished 35th in the 1500 m. At the European Championships in Turin in 2009 , he won silver with the relay over 5000 m. In the 2010/11 season he reached his first podium finish in the World Cup in Shanghai with third place in the relay. At the following World Cup in Moscow , he won his first World Cup victory in the relay. Over 500 m he came in third place. At the European Championships 2011 in Heerenveen and the European Championships 2012 in Mladá Boleslav , he won the gold medal with the relay. In February 2012 he won his second World Cup victory with the relay in Dordrecht . The following month he won the silver medal with the relay at the 2012 World Championships in Shanghai. In the 2012/13 season he finished second in the relay four times in the World Cup. At the 2013 European Championships in Malmö , he won the silver medal in the relay and the gold medal in the all-around, over 1000 m and over 3000 m. In March 2013 he won the bronze medal at the Short Track World Championships 2013 in Debrecen over 500 m and with the relay over 5000 m. The following season he came in third place with the relay at the World Cup in Turin. At the 2014 European Championships in Dresden , he won bronze over 1500 m and silver with the relay. At his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he was tenth over 500 m and fourth in the relay. In March 2014 he won the gold medal at the 2014 World Championships in Montreal with the relay team with Niels Kerstholt , Daan Breeuwsma and Sjinkie Knegt . In the 2014/15 season he won the World Cup twice with the relay and once achieved second and once third place with the relay. In January 2015 he won bronze with the relay and silver over 1000 m at the 2015 European Championships in Dordrecht. He also won the bronze medal with the relay at the following World Championships in 2015 in Moscow. In the 2015/16 season he came in second place with the relay in Montreal and in Dordrecht and also took third place over 1000 m in Nagoya . At the 2016 European Championships in Sochi, he won the gold medal with the relay. In addition, he was eighth in the all-around competition and achieved third place in the 1500 m run. His best results at the 2016 World Championships in Seoul were 12th place over 500 m and eighth place with the relay.
