Thuringian Bach Weeks
The Thuringian Bach Weeks are a festival specializing in baroque music in honor of Johann Sebastian Bach and are considered the largest festival of classical music in Thuringia . Venues across the country are both modern concert halls and authentic Bach sites. The Erfurt cathedral organist Silvius von Kessel has been artistic director since 2004 .
history
The Thuringian Bach Weeks were held for the first time in 1992. In the meantime the festival had to be abandoned. In 2005 it was founded with the foundation of the Thuringian Bach Weeks Association . V. restarted and realigned programmatically. Since then it has developed into a major music festival. The inclusion of authentic Bach sites makes it unique beyond Thuringia. In 2011 the Thuringian Bach Weeks were awarded the marketing prize lighthouses of the tourism industry , and in 2012 the tourism prize of the Thuringian Ministry of Economics in the field of competition and cooperation. 50 percent of the 15,800 visitors this year were tourists.
The Generation Bach concert series is also intended to inspire younger audiences for classical music. This was done u. a. by including crossover concerts at unusual venues in the festival ( Goldberg Variations with DJ and gospel singer, Bach and cinema, Bach in schools, dance theater by the Berlin company Nico and the Navigators on Bach works, jazz concert Introducing JSB ). Since 2006, the festival has traditionally started on the eve of the official opening with a Long Night of House Music . In 2011 over 60 participants in 27 Thuringian cities and municipalities invited to 90 private house concerts.
At the music festival, u. a. Ton Koopman , Olivier Latry , the Cappella Amsterdam , the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra & Choir , Martin Stadtfeld , Sol Gabetta , the Berliner Barock Solisten , the Collegium Vocale Gent under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe , the Tölzer Knabenchor or the Dresdner Kreuzchor .
