Wechmar is a part of the rural community Drei Gleichen in the district of Gotha in Thuringia .

Wechmar is located southeast of Gotha in the fertile glacial valley of the Apfelstädt . To the south the federal motorway 4 passes with a junction. The southern roofing of the seamounts gave and gives natural protection. The state road 2147 affects the place. The castles of the Three Equals are in the immediate vicinity .
history
In the literature from Thuringia, the first mention of Wechmar and Günthersleben until 775/786 is given in the same data. People settled here at an early stage. The place belonged to the upper county of Gleichen in the duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg until the middle of the 19th century and then to the district office of Ohrdruf in the duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .
The unified community Günthersleben-Wechmar was formed on December 31, 1997. On July 6, 2018, Wechmar came to the Drei Gleichen community with this community.
politics
The districts Günthersleben and Wechmar of the community Drei Gleichen have combined a common local constitution in accordance with Section 45a of the Thuringian municipal code . The combined locality with local constitution is called Günthersleben-Wechmar.
The joint local mayor is Frank Ritter.
Personalities
The Bach family of musicians was born on the Wechmarer Markt . Veit Bach and his son, the minstrel Hans Bach, lived in the Oberbackhaus and in the Veit-Bach-Mühle. They are the progenitors of the family of musicians. Her places of residence and work today are two museums and educational institutions.

Veit Bach Festival
Since 2000 the “Wechmarer Heimatverein e. V. “ every four years the festival named after Veit Bach takes place , in the framework of which a large folk theater piece with over 100 amateur actors in historical costumes is premiered. The piece Veit Bach, written by the Gotha author Andreas M. Cramer, celebrated the international Bach year 2000 . The forefather of the Bach family of musicians, directed by Antje Körbs, premiered in the Günthersleben-Wechmar festival hall. 63 actors, two choirs and two dance groups presented the (fictional) family events of the Bach family between 1590 (the presumed year of Veit's return to Thuringia, the home of his ancestors) and 1635 (the departure of Veit's grandsons Johann , Heinrich and Christoph from Wechmar ) represent.
