Günthersleben is part of the rural community Drei Gleichen in the district of Gotha in Thuringia .

Günthersleben is located southeast of Gotha in the fertile glacial valley of the Apfelstädt . The federal motorway 4 passes to the south, the next junctions of which are AS Wandersleben (6.1 km) and AS Gotha (4.8 km). The southern roofing of the seamounts gave and gives natural protection. The L 1045 touches the place. In the neighboring municipality of Drei Gleichen to the east are the castles of the Drei Gleichen .
history
In the literature from Thuringia, Günthersleben and Wechmar were first mentioned in documents until 775/786. People settled here at an early stage. The place belonged to the Counts of Gleichen . In 1631 the place came with the County of Unterleichen as a fief to the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen , but the sovereignty lay with the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .
The unified community Günthersleben-Wechmar was formed on December 31, 1997. This was dissolved on July 6, 2018 and the districts were incorporated into Drei Gleichen.
politics
The districts Günthersleben and Wechmar of the community Drei Gleichen have combined a common local constitution in accordance with Section 45a of the Thuringian municipal code . The combined locality with local constitution is called Günthersleben-Wechmar.
The joint local mayor is Frank Ritter.
Buildings
In 1143 a moated castle was built in Günthersleben , which was converted into a moated castle in the course of the following centuries. After the Second World War, the castle was demolished and a local recreation area was set up on the site in the 1970s. After 1990 a pavilion was built in the entrance area, which is used as an information center for regional history and geology . There, the scenic features of the Burgenland "Drei Gleichen" are conveyed within the GeoPark Inselsberg - Drei Gleichen .
