geography

Cobstädt is about 3 km north of the Apfelstädt river , between the neighboring districts of Grabsleben and Wandersleben . The local area borders in the west on Seebergen , in the east on Großrettbach . The Rettbach , which rises east of Kleinrettbach, flows through Großrettbach and flows into the Rot in Cobstädt, flows through the village , which in turn flows into the Apfelstädt in Wandersleben . Cobstädt is well connected via the Autobahn exit Wandersleben of the A 4 and via the federal road 7 Gotha – Erfurt. The highest elevation in the area of the village is the Galgenberg (292.9 m above sea level), the deepest point at 268 m is at the transition from the Rot water body to the Wandersleben area, the town center is 275 m above sea level.

history

12th to 15th centuries

The first written mention of the place took place in 1199: The owners of the village were the lords of Cobinstete . Walther von Cobinstete is named as a witness in an Ichtershausen document in 1199 , and Kunemund von Cobinstete in a document from the Counts of Orlamünde , who sold Count Meinhardt von Mühlberg a piece of wood called Tambuch .

Ulrich von Kobenstet, soldier (Ulricus de Kobenstet, miles) bequeathed two Hufen zu Apfelstädt to the Georgenthal monastery in 1255 . Two years later, Ulrich appears in an Ichtershausen sales letter. The brothers Ulrich and Heinrich von Cobenstet sold their goods in Matstete ( Mattstedt ) and Zottenstete ( Zottelstedt ) in 1289 , which they had from Landgrave Albrecht as a fief, to the provost Heidenreich and the Heusdorf monastery (near Apolda ) for 60 Mark Freiberger Silbers. In 1288, Landgrave Albrecht left the proceeds of the Friemar and Cobinstete tolls to the Johannisthal monastery.

Since 1299, the Georgenthal monastery gained a firm foothold in Cobstädt when knight Eberhard von Molschleben sold the monastery 2 Hufen Cobstädter Boden for 60 pounds Erfurt pfennigs; then, besieged by creditors, he sold 4 Hufen and 6 farms to the monastery for 120 pounds Erfurt pfennigs with the approval of his wife Agnes, his son Kunemund and his brother Heinrich. Immediately afterwards Agnes renounces her rights to the goods sold "freely and easily". When doubts arose about the interest on the acquired lands, knight Eberhard von Molschleben explained to the abbot Heinrich and Convente of the Georgenthal monastery that these were also included in the purchase. At last Eberhard von Molschleben was obliged to sell the whole rest of the village to the monastery for 240 marks of pure silver. That was the complete takeover of the place in 1333. This was confirmed in several documents.

Count Hermann IV von Gleichen be (ur) announced on March 27, 1314 that Henricus dictus de Cobinstete had sold the income of 44 Schillings Erfurt Pfennigs [...] to the dean and chapter of St. Mary's in Erfurt.

On November 20, 1330, at the request of the brothers Ulrich and Ludwig de Kobinstete […] the same Hermann von Gleichen gave […] income to the Peterskloster in Erfurt.

On September 26, 1336, the brothers Dietrich and Ludwig a Cobinstete are witnesses in a document for the Georgenthal monastery.

16th century to the present

After the dissolution of the Georgenthal monastery, the place belonged from 1531 as an exclave to the Georgenthal office , which had belonged to the duchy of Saxony-Gotha since 1640 . The Thirty Years War brought great hardship to the village. In 1640 there were still 17 of 44 houses with 10 men and 5 widows, 17 of 20 horses had been lost, and there were no more cattle and sheep. Four years later, the village was ravaged by imperial troops and completely looted.

On April 24, 1716, half of the village fell victim to a devastating fire. On August 18, 1786, a lightning strike in a barn caused a fire, which caused damage of 10'020 Mfl. caused. Between 1816 and 1871 the number of residents grew from 167 to 219. The neighboring town of Grabsleben was a "branch" at that time. In this source from 1875 it is reported that Cobstädt belonged to the so-called Freiwalddörfern. That was the right to obtain wood ("wood justice") in the Georgenthal forests. There the residents of Cobstädt got free wood for burning and building in exchange for the usual house and instruction money and forest rent .

On May 10, 1894 (Thursday before Pentecost) at around 2 pm, “ the flames suddenly rose. It had erupted in a barn on August Stichling's homestead and it was only noticed when it had already seized August Giehsler's neighboring barn. When the first men arrived at the site of the fire, the two barns had already largely burned down, and the adjacent stables had also already been taken. "

A rectory was built in Cobstädt in 1694, and a school apartment in 1734. In 1818 the rectory became 1046 Rthrln. 10 gr. 10 Pf. Rebuilt. An industrial school was established in 1851, and an advanced training school in 1856.

On July 1, 1950, Cobstädt was incorporated into Grabsleben . Cobstädt has been part of the Drei Gleichen community since January 1, 2009 .

Field names

Old field names have been preserved to this day:

  • the Hopfgarten refers to the former authorization to brew beer (brewing justice) . It is reported that Duke Ernst the Pious granted the village the right to malt and brew because he asked for a refreshment drink there but could not get it .
  • At the horse reed : Reminiscent of the formerly flourishing horse trade with a special Thuringian horse breed
  • At the edge of the pond: parcel southeast of the church, today at the fire brigade club home. A small pond used to stretch south of the church.
  • Die Worben: Meadow area above the village towards Grabsleben
  • At Röddelsbrunn (or Röttelsbrunn, Redelsbrunn ): Area around a small spring above the Worben
  • Behind the ax: This is where the new Am Biel settlement stands today
  • In the Gosselswiesen: Meadow between the road to Großrettbach and the Rettbach
  • In the Nassländchen: Meadow on the Rot towards Seebergen, Gossel = geese
  • Galgenberg: Highest elevation south of the village, borders on the Wandersleben area. In "Galetti: History and Description of the Duchy of Gotha , 1780" the Galgenberg is mentioned as a place of justice, to which a footpath led up.
  • Diebssteig: Path from Rettbacher Straße to Galgenberg
  • Pfaffenstieg: route north of the church in a westerly direction to Tüttleben . On this way the priests went to Tüttleben to the Mönchhof.

Attractions

  • Church: The history of the village is closely linked to that of its church. (→ main article Cobstadt Church )
  • See also list of cultural monuments in Drei Gleichen (municipality)
  • Cobstädt has (at least) two natural monuments: the "Lügenlinde" north of the church on "Pfaffenstieg" and a mighty oak ( location )
  • "Hennesches Gasthaus": The former Hennesche Gasthaus in the center of the town, at the corner of Schenkstrasse and Seeberger Strasse, is a special "sight". In the local history, which is kept in the Seebergen parish, there are entries that show that the tavern changed tenants / owners 11 times between 1863 and 1896. The latter owner was Otto Henne, who bought the inn in 1896 from Friebel, who had previously been the manager of an Arnstadt mill. Henne's male descendants still owned the property after the fall of the Wall . The inn, once a flourishing meeting place for young and old, with its own brewery and beekeeping and a “ consumer ”, was no longer in operation, the building was becoming increasingly dilapidated and in 2015 was auctioned off to a private investor. An old linden tree in front of the building, which had grown through a millstone, was felled in autumn 2017.
In the local chronicle mentioned there are entries such as “Sold to a Catholic in 1881”, who had to give up the restaurant again in 1882 due to illness. Or: "1892: Wirth Wölfer's restaurant is neat, clean and decent." The Friebel host is reported: "Even among the new landlords there is a decent and decent tone in the tavern".

Resident companies and associations

The place is home to two roofing companies, companies for building elements, for roof cleaning systems, for surveying and billing, a horticultural company and an association for the promotion of alternative agriculture.

The organized social life of the village has been largely shaped by the Cobstädt parish since 2017, formerly by the volunteer fire brigade .

Personalities

  • Johann Christoph Sachse (1762–1822), writer and library servant under Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in the Duchess Anna Amalia Library Weimar

Trivia

The people of Cobstadt call themselves and are called Cobschter frogs by the residents of the neighboring communities , perhaps because there is a place where the rivers Rot and Rettbach u. a. in the Gosselswiese ("Gänsewiese") there was a playground for frogs and toads; the area is now largely drained as pasture and arable land.
