Friemar is a municipality in the district of Gotha in Thuringia . It belongs to the administrative community Nesseaue .

geography

Friemar lies in a shallow depression between the 312 m above sea level, which is equipped with wind turbines. NN high Lindwurmsberg in the south ( belonging to Tüttleben ) and the gently rising hills towards the Fahner heights in the north. The Nesse flows through the municipal area , coming from horse life in the southeast and leaving the district to the northwest in the direction of Molschleben . In the north of the locality, the Aalbach cuts through the area from west to east, which rises near the confluence of Buflebener Landstrasse (K 4) and Landesstrasse L 1027 (Gotha-Kindleben - Molschleben). In Friemar, the K 4 district road from Gotha- Kindleben , which continues to Pferdeleben, crosses with the L 1043 state road , which begins in the village, meets the L 2145 to Molschleben on the northern outskirts and then heads northeast to Tröchtelborn .

history

At the beginning of the 9th century the place was called Fretmaren . In a list of the goods lent by Archbishop Lullus († 786) of Mainz to the monastery of Hersfeld von Free, it was first mentioned as Friomare . In a deed of gift dated May 18, 874, Friemmari, along with other 116 places in Thuringia, is mentioned as the Fulda Abbey. Archbishop Liubert zu Mainz as well as Abbot Sigehard zu Fulda asserted the right to raise the tithe for themselves. The dispute over this was decided by King Ludwig the German (840–876) at the court of Ingelheim in favor of the Fulda Abbey. In 1999, in ignorance of the first year mentioned, the year 874 was adopted as the first mention and the 1125th anniversary of the place was celebrated.

The place name refers in all probability to the area surrounding the place. The basic word -mar indicates damp, swampy soil, the determinant Fri- is, however, etymologically extremely difficult and controversial in the discussion of names. Under no circumstances can the name of the place be associated with the goddess Freia or the like.

The place was in the office of Gotha , which had belonged to the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha since 1640, to the Duchy of Saxony-Gotha-Altenburg since 1672 and to the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha since 1826 .

The Thuringian Farmers' Association was founded in Friemar on June 23, 1990 by 245 delegates .

Hunting

Friemar played a central role in the Thuringian woad cultivation . In the 13th and 14th centuries, three wood mills are said to have stood on the Angerwiesen north of Friemar. The Aalbach, which rises near Kindleben, and the Nesse supplied the water necessary for processing. At the end of the village in the direction of Gotha, the last wood mill is said to have stood, from which the millstone that is now on the school site could have come. In the southern part of the village, a street is called "Hinter dem Waid". See also woad cultivation in Thuringia .

Today the municipality of Friemar has 1223 inhabitants. While the agricultural character used to prevail, various craft and service companies have now settled here. There is also a primary school, a kindergarten and a youth club as well as a local museum.

  • In the center of the village is the church of St. Veit , built in 1780 after a major fire , the jewel of which is the organ built in 1830 by the Tabarz organ builder Johann Valentin Knauf . The parish has a children's, a church and a gospel choir. In addition to church work, the parish also takes on social responsibility and maintains an open youth club, which is looked after by a youth deacon, as well as a kindergarten, which is also attended by children from surrounding communities.
  • The Friemar reservoir is located 200 m to the east on the territory of the municipality , an artificial reservoir of Immerbach and Lache Bach, which come from the east and flow into the Nesse as an outflow from the reservoir immediately behind the dam. The lake was originally designed as a water storage tank for agriculture (irrigation of fields). Today the area has been developed into a rural recreational area. Parts of the area are designated as a natural monument (reed belt). The lake has a height of 287.05 m above sea level when it is fully blocked. NN, a storage area of 34.5 ha and a storage volume of 0.69 million m³. Today the lake is used for flood protection , raising the low water level , fishing , nature conservation and local recreation. In 1999 the sprinkler system and overpumping station were dismantled, so that today it is technically no longer possible to draw water for the aforementioned agricultural purposes.
  • Immediately below the dam rises the Rieth-Brunnen , a small enclosed spring, the trickle of which pours into the Nesse after a few meters. The source is indicated for tourists with signposts, but without further explanations. (Coordin .: )
  • The Girnbrunnen is located in the south of the village . It is a fissure spring whose water emerges from a crevice between the lower Keuper and the upper Muschelkalk . As can be seen from an information board there, the area between the source and the current location was once the settlement area of Hermunduren , who preferred fertile soil and wetlands. The settlement was proven by numerous finds of coins, graves with gifts, weapons, jewelry and tools. The archaeologists have also uncovered paved paths, fireplaces and garbage pits. The “cradle” of the village is said to be here on the fertile land to the left of the Nesse with soils made of Keuper and black earth. Here, a bench invites you to linger, in front of which the symbolic replica of a historical fireplace from the year 650 BC. Is embedded in the ground. In the immediate vicinity, reference is made to a phenomenon that is unique in the district of Gotha: On August 26, 1998, a hurricane-like storm uprooted some trees, the balls of which have retained their roots to this day. (Coordin .: )
  • The Siebenbrunnen spring with the Siebenbrunnen linden tree can be viewed southwest of Friemar as an area natural monument . Like the Girnbrunnen, this is also a fissure spring from the same geological situation. (Coordin .: )
