Heinrich von Friemar (the elder)
Heinrich von Friemar (the elder) (* around 1245 in Friemar near Gotha ; † October 18, 1340 in Erfurt ) was an Augustinian hermit and philosophical , theological and ascetic writer .
Life
Heinrich joined the Augustinian order at a young age and began his theological studies in Bologna before 1264 . As a provincial , he headed the entire German Augustinian province from 1290 to 1299 and promoted the interests of his order, so that it flourished in Germany and a division into four provinces became necessary. In order to prepare for his later teaching activities, Heinrich studied theology in Paris from the end of 1299 , where he finally took the chair at the university held by the Augustinians in 1305. Ten years later he went to the Augustinian monastery in Erfurt , where he also completed his master's degree and taught theology. In 1318 he was appointed director of the Studium generale in Erfurt's Augustinian monastery, which he presumably founded, in Germany and appointed examiner for the students applying for the editing. In Erfurt, his permanent residence, he developed a rich activity as a writer, teacher of the clergy , preacher and traveling missionary . Heinrich was still active in his old age for his order, where he is revered as the Beatus . He was also called Doctor seraphicus or mellifluus .
