Career

In the 2006/07 season Konopko appeared for the first time in the Short Track World Cup and achieved a 13th place over 1000 meters as the best result, but he also achieved top 20 results over 500 meters. At the 2007 European Championships , he placed 29th in the individual and tenth and last place with the relay. He also competed in the 2007/08 World Cup and again achieved 13th place as the best result. At the European Championships in 2008 he achieved his greatest successes to date; while he was eighth with the relay, he managed several top 10 placements in the individual courses, where he even finished fourth over 500 meters, among other things, and collected some points. However, these were just insufficient to qualify for the finals of the best in points, overall he was tenth, tied with ninth, Belgian Pieter Gysel .

The 2008 World Championship, where he started for the first time, was not so successful, Konopko was only 38th here. For this he even won the 500 meter race at the Alta Valtellina Trophy in Bormio . He also started the Short Track World Cup 2008/09 very successfully with a surprising fourth place over 500 meters at the station in Beijing . He also got his first World Cup points on the long distance of 1500 meters.
